In this article posted yesterday, Dr. Joseph Mercola also discusses the deleterious effects of artificial sweeteners, and he provides some interesting info and words of caution on a new wave of artificial sweeteners – one in particular called Sweetmyx – which won’t have to go through the FDA approval process before use! In this post from last year, he goes through each of the sugar substitute options (aspartame (NutraSweet, Equal), sucralose (Splenda), saccharin (SweetNLow), agave, honey, xyolitol and others..) and what’s safe and what’s not. If you want to add a bit of sweet, his top recommendations are stevia (the most unrefined versions) and lo han guo from the Lo Han fruit as safer sweetener options.
